In 1997, 3M Company solicited proposals for millwright work at their Cottage Grove facility. Alltech Engineering was selected for this work, and has been reselected every year since.

Alltech's responsibility is to provide skilled manpower and equipment on the 3M Cottage Grove site, for daily mechanical maintenance jobs as requested by 3M. Daily maintenance includes such things as replacement of bearings and drives, installation of lifting and conveying devices, installation, alignment and modification of machinery, moving machinery, fabrication and installation of miscellaneous metals, performing changeovers on production lines, maintaining and installing guarding, inspecting and maintaining hoist systems, and providing support for emergency mechanical breakdowns.

The maintenance work that is done at the 3M Cottage Grove facility, is performed in a variety of environments, and requires various different safety considerations.
